IPR & ICP Valve Replacement

Diagnosing and resolving erratic idling, stalling, and no-start conditions by correcting Injection Pressure Regulator and Injection Control Pressure sensor faults.

Controlling the High-Pressure Oil

The HEUI fuel injection system, famously used in Ford 7.3L and 6.0L Powerstrokes, depends entirely on precise control of high-pressure engine oil to fire the injectors at the correct microsecond. Two critical components govern this dance: the ICP sensor (the eyes) and the IPR valve (the brain).

01

ICP Sensor Failure

The Injection Control Pressure sensor monitors the pressure generated by the HPOP. A failing ICP sensor will typically show up as:

  • Check Engine Light (P2285, P1280)
  • Engine surging or bucking while driving
  • Rough, erratic idle
  • Oil leaking completely through the sensor body onto the wiring pigtail (a guaranteed sign of failure)
02

IPR Valve Failure

The Injection Pressure Regulator valve takes commands from the PCM based on the ICP readings to modulate oil pressure by opening and closing. When it fails, you experience:

  • Stuck open: Engine dies while driving when hot and will not restart until it cools completely down.
  • Sticking internally due to debris or failed seals
  • Blown or melted solenoid coils on the valve itself

Replacing these sensors requires specialized sockets (especially deep-seated IPR valves on older platforms) and the ability to confidently diagnose whether the fault lies in the sensors, their electrical pigtails, or the HPOP itself. We bring these tools natively to your driveway.
