In engines utilizing Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injection (HEUI), such as the legendary 7.3L and 6.0L Powerstroke, the High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP) doesn't lubricate the engine—it pressurizes oil to literally fire the fuel injectors. When the HPOP begins to fail or develop leaks, your engine loses power, struggles to start when hot, or fails to start entirely.

Symptoms of HPOP Failure

Hard Start or No Start When Hot: The oil thins out when warm, and a weak pump/leaking system cannot build the required pressure (typically 500+ psi) to fire the injectors.
Loss of Power/Acceleration: The engine demands more injection pressure under load than the failing pump can supply.
Check Engine Light (CEL): Codes related to Injection Control Pressure (ICP) being too low or out of expected parameters.
Visible Oil Leaks: Especially in the engine valley on 7.3L platforms due to failing HPOP lines or o-rings.
